Suspension Plasma Spray

Axial Suspension Plasma Spray Coatings (ASPS)

Mettech has developed a proprietary nano-powder suspension coating system. The suspension coating system is integrated into the Mettech Axial III process control and is capable of continuous spraying of ultrafine nano-powders resulting in thin dense coatings required in a variety of high tech applications including solid oxide fuel cell, semiconductor, and aerospace.

 The ASPS process is a cost competitive alternative to Electron-Beam Physical Vapour Deposition (EB-PVD) in certain high value applications.

Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC)

  The Axial III is a versatile tool that is able to apply a variety of Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) microstructures used for heat resistance. These vary from dense to porous structures and strain relief vertically micro-cracked coatings. The choice of microstructure depends on the application. Usually for thick TBC coatings a higher level of porosity is incorporated. The various microstructures are determined and controlled by starting powder type and spray parameters.

Functional Ceramic Coatings

Mettech also has develped expertise in applying unique ceramic coatings that have specific applications required for the Solid Oxide Fuel Cell industry. This low cost production technology opens up commercialization paths for these products.

Carbide Coatings
Mettech produces wear coatings with high hardness and low porosity.

 Mettech's carbide coatings are used for jet engine components by the US Air Force.

Carbide materials are widely used for wear resistance, but can be misapplied by end users unfamiliar with the various types of carbide materials and their specific application space. Mettech's Coating Engineers can assist in applying the correct carbide chemistry for a specific application.

 Mettech's High Energy Axial Plasma Torch can reach supersonic velocity and competes with HVOF Coatings.
