Description

The Mettech Axial III™ System is a field-proven plasma spray product for conventional industrial coatings and high-performance applications such as graded coatings, reactive metal spraying, high temperature ceramics, and spray forming. The system is computer controlled with a programmable database of coating run parameters. The full automation of the system and precise control of spray parameters make it extremely reliable and consistent in producing high quality coatings.

Benefits

Increased feed rates

The Mettech Axial III™ System injects powders directly into the center of the plasma flame, thereby entraining virtually 100% of powder in the hot zone. Significantly higher feed rates can be used, subsequently resulting in increased production. Powders flow freely into the center of the plasma flame through a proprietary nozzle design, resulting in velocities that significantly higher than standard plasma torches - and approach those attained with HVOF systems.

Improved coating quality & consistency

Better entrainment of the powder in the plasma flame ensures effective heating and melting of the feedstock. The result is coatings of considerably higher quality and consistency than can be achieved by any other commercially available plasma spray system. Mettech coatings are capable of meeting highly demanding standards for hardness, porosity and thickness.

Highly Adaptable
The Mettech Axial III™ System has superior temperature and chemistry control. It is highly adaptable, handling injection of materials in liquid, gas and solid form. Furthermore, the design of the Axial IIItm System allows it to spray reactive materials such as titanium without a vacuum chamber, by excluding air from the plasma flame – giving our customers a range of new coating opportunities.

Operation

The Axial III™ Plasma Spray Torch is a 3-anode/3-cathode DC plasma torch with powder injection along the central axis. The plasma streams converge at the point where the powder is injected. At this point, the plasma/powder flow is accelerated through a specially designed nozzle. Powder velocities are significantly higher than other plasma torches and approach those attained with HVOF systems. The resultant coatings produced by the Mettech Axial IIItm System are very consistent, reproducible and of a superior quality.

Three-Gas Chemistry

The Axial III™ Plasma Spray Torch utilizes three gases: Argon (Ar), Nitrogen (N2), and Hydrogen (H2), or Helium (He) can be substituted for H2. The Axial IIItm can operate using either Argon or Nitrogen as the primary gas. Factory set maximum flow rates for the gases are:

Ar: 400 l/min
N2:
200 l/min
H2: 100 l/min or
He: 140 l/min
