The Mettech Axial III Thermal Spray System is a versatile
tool that is able to apply a variety of Thermal Barrier Coating
(TBC) microstructures. These vary from dense to porous structures,
to vertically micro-cracked coatings. The choice of microstructure
depends on the application and coating strategy dictated by the
turbine manufacturer. Usually for thick TBC coatings a higher level
of porosity is incorporated. The various microstructures are determined
and controlled by starting powder morphology, powder size distribution
and Axial III spray parameters.
